Connected Subsea Operations for Defense

Maritime domain awareness does not stop at the waterline. Across every subsea mission, the enabler is the same: a communication layer that keeps underwater assets connected. Subnero provides it.

The Gap in Maritime Domain Awareness

Most forces have a strong maritime picture on and above the water, and almost none in the subsea domain. Subsea domain awareness means knowing where your underwater assets are and what they are doing, and that requires a network beneath the surface. Subnero provides the communication layer that enables that network.

Persistent connectivity

Keep assets linked throughout a mission instead of waiting for recovery to learn what happened.

One operating picture

See where your underwater assets are and what they are doing, alongside the surface and air picture your force already holds.

Reduced risk and intervention

Fewer vessels on station and fewer people in the water, with more of the mission run remotely and autonomously.

Seabed to operator

Backhaul over available terrestrial networks carries the subsea picture from the gateway straight to your command center and shore networks.

One Communication Layer, Many Missions

Every mission below depends on the same thing: a communication layer for the subsea domain. Subnero delivers that layer as a configurable underwater network connecting sensors, vehicles, divers, gateways, and shore stations, with backhaul over available links above the surface, so the subsea picture reaches the operator in real time.

Subsea Missions, One Network

Mine countermeasures over an underwater network, with AUVs prosecuting mines and handing over between coverage cells
Unmanned System Coordination

Enable communication with underwater vehicles during detection and classification, including ordnance.

Passive acoustic monitoring network detecting a submarine at one end of a seabed sensor field and relaying the contact to a gateway buoy
Passive Acoustic Monitoring

Seabed nodes listen and relay contacts for wider surveillance and antisubmarine awareness.

Diver communication and tracking over an underwater network, with relay nodes deployed along the dive route back to a support vessel
Diver Communication and Tracking

Messaging, telemetry, and position for divers well beyond direct range.

Underwater command and control, with every subsea asset reporting through the network to one operating picture at a shore command center
Command and Control

Every asset on one operating picture, reaching command centers ashore.

Plan, Simulate and Validate Before Deployment

Subsea networks need to be tested before field operations. Subnero supports simulation and hardware-in-the-loop validation so teams can evaluate configurations, traffic patterns and operating assumptions before deployment.

UnetSim

Simulate the full network, topologies, protocols, and traffic, at fleet scale, before deployment.

Hardware in the Loop Simulation

Run real Subnero modems against simulated channels and mission scenarios, so the exact hardware and software that will deploy is what gets tested.

UnetCloud

The full simulation environment, a standing digital twin for planning, evaluation, and training.

Underwater cellular network deployed in Singapore waters by Subnero

Proven Where It Matters

Working with ST Engineering, Subnero deployed one of the world's first commercial underwater cellular networks in Singapore waters, demonstrating continuous coverage, seamless handover, multi user resource sharing, and real time tracking of subsea assets. The deployment is documented in an OCEANS 2024 paper and a full case study.

The Subnero Underwater Network also won the DisTec Undersea Challenge at UDT 2021, selected ahead of finalists from across the undersea defense community.
